Schumer asks Trump to halt Chinese investments

All announced investments from China that warrant scrutiny for national security issues need to be put on hold until the government in Beijing shows more determination about North Korea, said Chuck Schumer, United States Senate minority leader. The Wall Street Journal quoted the top Democrat's statement on Tuesday from his letter to President Donald Trump about ways to curtail the isolated state's nuclear and missile programs. The move marks a shift to a more hawkish policy from the party, which has so far only insisted on measures to control trade with the most populous nation.

The New York senator urges Trump to engage the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) and block acquisitions and mergers, the article said. The agency is responsible for reviews and issues recommendations to the president.
