United States Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "an obstacle to peace."

"The Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel ... the Israeli people are being stifled right now by a governing vision that is stuck in the past," Schumer stated while speaking on the Senate floor. To achieve long-lasting peace, "Israel must make some significant course corrections," he remarked.

"Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah," Schumer stressed. However, he also criticized Hamas and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Schumer underlined that until all of the current leaders are removed, peace will not exist in Israel, Gaza, or the West Bank.
