United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (pictured) has died of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 87, the US high court announced.
Appointed by former President Bill Clinton, Ginsburg had served on the court since 1993 but her health weighed on the minds of many after a biopsy at the beginning of the year uncovered lesions on her liver.
The vacancy left by Ginsburg gives incumbent President Donald Trump a window of opportunity, before the general election takes place in November, to name his third Supreme Court justice to serve a lifetime tenure on the bench.
