Former Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, (pictured) was elected for the second time, having previously held the position in 2022.

The new government must address economic challenges, negotiate a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and manage discontent from Khan's supporters.

Despite securing 201 votes in the National Assembly, Sharif faces opposition from allies of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who allege electoral rigging.
