United States Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology Anne Neuberger said on Wednesday that the SolarWinds hacking attack was "likely of Russian origin," although the perpetrator has not been officially determined.
A total of nine federal agencies and approximately 100 mostly technology companies have been compromised during the attack, Neuberger specified at a White House press briefing. The attack was "advanced" and "sophisticated," she noted, adding that "a compromise of this scope and scale" is "more than a single incident of espionage" and that there is a "concern for this to become disruptive."
The previous US administration also accused "Russian hackers" of carrying out the cyberattack, a claim rejected by Moscow on multiple occasions.
