British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to announce early general elections for July 4, sources told The Guardian on Wednesday.
The prime minister previously claimed that his "working assumption" was that the general elections would be held in the second half of the year, but according to British media, a Cabinet meeting was scheduled to take place at 4:15 pm local time, with Foreign Secretary David Cameron cutting his trip short to Albania to take part in the meeting.
"We are fully ready to go whenever the prime minister calls an election. We have a fully organized and operational campaign ready to go," Labour Party and Opposition leader Keir Starmer previously said. According to the latest polls, the Conservative Party is on track for the worst election result since 1997.
