Military authorities in Taiwan confirmed on Thursday that "communist" ballistic missiles fired by the People's Republic of China flew over the island earlier in the day.
However, the missiles flew at heights outside of the Earth's atmosphere, and Taipei armed forces determined they would not pose a risk to the island's ground area. An air defense alert has not been issued for that reason, Taiwan's military added.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense estimated earlier today that four of five missiles that landed in its exclusive economic zone had flown over Taiwan.
