A United States federal judge in Texas ruled against allowing new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), finding the program to be unlawful.
District Court Judge Andrew Hanen said in his ruling that the current DACA recipients will remain unaffected that the court does not "require DHS or the Department of Justice to take any immigration, deportation, or criminal action against any DACA recipient, applicant, or any other individual that it would not otherwise take."
On his first day in office, President Joe Biden inked 15 executive actions reversing decisions made by his predecessor, including a memo to preserve the Obama-era immigration program.
