Trump calls UK ambassador 'pompous fool'

United States President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to continue insulting the United Kingdom Ambassador to Washington Kim Darroch, branding him a "pompous fool." He insisted Darroch should not be upset with him for criticizing the UK government, but rather with British Prime Minister Theresa May and her cabinet for the way they handled Brexit talks with the European Union.

"The wacky Ambassador that the U.K. foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy. He should speak to his country, and Prime Minister May, about their failed Brexit negotiation, and not be upset with my criticism of how badly it was handled. I told Theresa May how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way-was unable to get it done. A disaster!" Trump wrote. "I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool," he added and claimed Darroch should be told that the US has the best military and economy "anywhere in the world" and that, thanks to his administration, they are continuing to improve further.

On Monday, the US president insisted he will "no longer deal with" Darroch after media leaks showed the UK ambassador called him "insecure" and "incompetent." However, May's office responded by saying the envoy has the "full support" of the UK government and stressed the diplomat's job necessitated he provide his honest assessments.
