United States President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on Friday that all aspects of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi must be uncovered. "Agreeing on the need to shed light on all aspects and to prevent a cover-up of Jamal Khashoggi’s slaying, the leaders have stressed the importance of close cooperation between Turkey and the United States in the fight against all terrorist organizations," the statement on their phone conversation said.
On Thursday, Washington sanctioned 17 individuals over their alleged involvement in Khashoggi's death. The officials blacklisted include Saud Al-Qahtani, a former close aide to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman who was removed from his post by the king, and Mohammad Al-Otaibi, Saudi Consul General. The alleged leader of the killing squad that liquidated Khashoggi, Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, is also on the list.
