Trump vows tariffs on foreign computer chips, semiconductors

United States President Donald Trump pledged to place tariffs on "foreign production of computer chips, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals," in hopes of returning production of these "essential" goods to the US.

"They left us and left for Taiwan and we want them to come back," he said. "And we don't want to give them billions of dollars, like this ridiculous program that Biden has," he stressed, noting that what these companies lacked to return to the US was "incentive." This incentive, Trump said, lies in the fact that "they're not going to want to pay a 25%, 50% or even 100% tax."

"They're going to build their factory with their own money," he said, adding that "they're going to come in because its good for them to come in." He stressed that his administration is going to "look at pharmaceuticals, chips, semiconductors, steel and some other industries."
