United States President Donald Trump reiterated on Wednesday that his country needs to acquire Greenland for the sake of "international security."

"We have to have it," the US president told reporters. His comments come ahead of the visit to the Arctic territory by second lady Usha Vance and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. The local authorities said they consider the visits a provocation, while the Danish prime minister vowed to withstand what she saw as US pressure to obtain the island. Furthermore, Trump stated that Greenland's population would not oppose annexation.

Speaking about the ongoing diplomatic effort to end the conflict in Ukraine, Trump noted that "great strides" have been made in this direction.
