United States President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to have a phone call after the latest round of the trade talks between the world's two largest economies failed to produce results, the FOX Business Network reported. According to the sources from the trade delegations, Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said that "there is nothing more he can do" and that the potential resolution was now "up to the world leaders."

The meeting was concluded just hours before the $200 billion of Chinese imports receive a tariffs increase from 10% to 25%. According to the latest reports, the two sides failed to reach a binding agreement.

Ahead of the meeting in Washington, Liu said that he hopes for a "rational and candid exchange" with his American counterparts, while Trump stated that a trade deal with China could still occur this week, as well as that he came up with an "excellent alternative" to the trade deal after receiving a letter from Xi.
