Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar met with his Syrian and Russian counterparts Ali Mahmoud Abbas and Sergey Shoygu upon his arrival to Moscow on Wednesday.
Hakan Fidan, the head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), traveled to the Russian capital alongside the Turkish minister of defense. The meeting of the defense ministers included Fidan as well as the heads of the Russian and Syrian intelligence services.
On December 15, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan disclosed his proposal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Turkish, Russian, and Syrian officials meet together in an effort to defuse the escalating tensions between Ankara and Damascus.
