The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has threatened to ban clubs that are signing up to a new Super League from taking part in any of its football tournaments, including the Champions League.
The group is made up of 12 European top-division teams, which includes England's so-called "big six," comprising Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, La Liga's Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Serie A's AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus. "We will consider all measures available to us, at all levels, both judicial and sporting in order to prevent this happening," UEFA said about the project.
FIFA has already condemned all efforts to create the breakaway Super League, noting that any club or player involved in the new competition would subsequently be barred from the World Cup, amongst other international tournaments.
