The Russian military operation in Ukraine evidences a "crisis in strategic planning," as highlighted Wednesday by the latest intelligence report of the UK Ministry of Defense, citing a Russian official as saying.
According to the report, there is certain discontent among the Russian military with the existing strategy due to the "current emphasis upon constructing extensive, positional defensive works."
The ministry also noted that it is possible that "factional tensions" are extending "to the top of Russia's military hierarchy." Rumors that the Chief of the Russian General Staff, General Valery Gerasimov (pictured right), has been fired are an example of this; however, those rumors are still unverified.
