US doubles arrests year on year on Mexico border

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Tuesday that it arrested 851,508 people crossing illegally from Mexico in the 2019 fiscal year, which ended with September. The number was the biggest since 2007.

It increased more than twice for total apprehensions and over four times when it comes to family units (473,628). Single adult trespasser count reached 301,806 while 76,020 unaccompanied children tried to get illegally into the US without success, the agency revealed.

"These are numbers that no immigration system in the world can handle, not even in this country," CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan stressed and added that he expects 450 more miles or 724 kilometers of the protection fence, also known as the wall, to be built by the end of 2020 to prevent irregular migrations.
