The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Maros Sefcovic said on Tuesday that "unilateral actions contradicting an international agreement are not acceptable" after the United Kingdom announced legislation to change parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol. He warned that the EU "will need to respond with all measures at its disposal" if the UK moves ahead with the bill.

"Our overarching objective is to find joint solutions within the framework of the Protocol. That is the way to ensure legal certainty and predictability for people and businesses in Northern Ireland," Sefcovic said, adding that the EU stands ready to continue discussions with the UK government.
