United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) claimed on Thursday that a Chinese Navy J-11 fighter pilot executed an "unsafe maneuver" while intercepting US Air Force RC-135 aircraft over the South China Sea on December 21.
The American military asserted that its aircraft "was lawfully conducting routine operations... in international airspace" before the Chinese pilot moved his jet "in front of and within 20 feet of the nose of the RC-135, forcing the RC-135 to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision."
Washington's armed forces called on "all countries in the Indo-Pacific region to use international airspace safely and in accordance with international law."
