United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff told Axios in an interview on Thursday that rebuilding efforts in Gaza could take between 10 and 15 years.
"What was inescapable is that there is almost nothing left of Gaza," the envoy told the outlet after spending the day in the war-torn region. According to the statement, his mission is to stabilize the situation enough for the ceasefire deal to proceed as planned. Witkoff emphasized that mapping out reconstruction efforts for Gaza in five years, as originally planned, was "impossible."
Hamas freed three hostages today, while Israel released more than a hundred prisoners following a delay caused by a "chaotic environment."
