US federal staff notified of buyout deadline extension

United States federal workers received another email from the address labeled "HR" telling them that District Judge George O'Toole decided to pause the deadline for the buyout offer made by United States President Donald Trump's administration, CNN reported.

The subject line read: "Fork in the Road: Deadline Extended to Monday." The email informed federal workers that "in compliance with an order issued today by the District Court of Massachusetts granting a request to stay the deadline for the Deferred Resignation Program, the deadline for federal employees to accept the program is being extended to Monday, February 10."

O'Toole scheduled the next hearing for Monday, as unions representing federal workers filed a lawsuit seeking to pause the deadline for the offer, calling it an "arbitrary, unlawful, short-fused ultimatum." The offer has reportedly been extended to around 2 million employees with the White House claiming that approximately 40,000 have accepted the offer so far.
