Assad: US actions against IRGC irresponsible

EPA-EFE / SANA

The decision of the United States to designate the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization was "a part of erroneous" and "irresponsible" policies from Washington that "constitute the main factor of instability" in the Middle East, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad (pictured left) said on Tuesday.

Speaking during a visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Assad also said that " Iran, Syria and their allies would continue to protect the rights and interests of their peoples despite the policies pursued by the US and some Western countries," SANA reported.

The two politicians also talked about the Astana talks, the US policy towards the Golan Heights and Jerusalem and mutual cooperation in a number of fields.
