The Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said Edmundo Gonzalez (pictured), the opposition leader who claims to have won the latest presidential election, has left Venezuela and is seeking asylum in Spain. He previously took refuge at the Spanish Embassy in Caracas.

Gonzalez enjoyed support from the United States, which recognized him as the winner of the July ballot against Venezuela's longtime President Nicolas Maduro. The Venezuelan government issued a warrant for Gonzalez's arrest earlier this week.
