The digital levy proposed by the European Union is not incompatible with the minimum global corporate tax plan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday. "Those two are not conflicting, they are more complementary because in the development of our digital levy we are making sure that this is non-discriminatory and that there will be no double taxation," she assured.
At a press conference ahead of the G7 summit in the United Kingdom, Von der Leyen described the progress in global tax negotiations as "very positive" but added the proposal must first be adopted by the G20 and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). European Council President Charles Michel addressed the concerns expressed by Hungary, Poland and Ireland, stressing the G7 agreement on the global corporate tax "does not resolve all the questions that will arise" on a national level, and that EU institutions will continue to work on the details in the future.
