European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed solidarity following the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar as its epicenter, with tremors felt in surrounding countries like Thailand, where significant damage was also reported. "Europe's Copernicus satellites are already helping first responders. We are ready to provide more support. We stand with you in full solidarity," she stated on Friday.

France has also pledged assistance. "We are ready to provide support as soon as the need has been expressed, and we have evacuated our premises in Bangkok to guard against any form of risk," said Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot from Shanghai on Friday, referring to the French embassy, schools, and other buildings.

Both Myanmar and Thailand have declared a state of emergency in affected areas. Although casualties are already being reported, authorities and local media caution that it is too soon to assess the full impact. Hospitals, such as Mandalay General in Myanmar, are overwhelmed with injured patients.
