United States National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday that Israel informed Washington that its military operation in Rafah was "limited," confirming previous reports.

"What we've been told by our Israeli counterparts is that this operation last night was limited and designed to cut off Hamas' ability to smuggle weapons and funds into Gaza. Our views on Rafa remain the same," he remarked. The US official added that the country wants to see both the Rafah and the Kerem Shalom crossings up and running again as soon as possible.

Regarding the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas, Kirby mentioned that the two "should be able to close the remaining gaps" in the latest round of talks.
