White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated Monday that "the right thing to do" for Democratic Senator from New Jersey Bob Menendez would have been to resign.

"We see this as a serious matter," Karine told the press after saying that "certainly is going to be up to him [Sen. Bob Menendez] and the Senate leadership to decide."

Earlier, Menendez explained that the money seized from his Englewood Cliffs home by federal agents came from his savings account. So far, the senator has indicated that he will remain in Congress despite the federal corruption charges.
