Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky firmly rejected on Wednesday the possibility of extending gas transit deals involving Russian supplies. Speaking on the matter in Brussels, he stressed Ukraine's refusal to enable Moscow to earn additional billions through such arrangements, which he linked to its war efforts.
Zelensky clarified that Ukraine would consider facilitating transit for gas originating from non-Russian sources, provided guarantees ensure no financial benefit to Russia. He noted that discussions with European nations and Slovakia's Prime Minister have addressed these difficulties.
The potential for an Azerbaijan-Russia swap deal, where Russian gas is purchased under Azerbaijani branding, was dismissed by Zelensky unless guarantees eliminate Russian financial gains.
