Amazon announced on Friday that it will introduce "limited advertisements" to TV shows and movies on its Prime Video service starting in early 2024 to allow the company to "continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time."
"We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers," Amazon insisted.
The ads will be first introduced in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia later next year. Users will have the option to buy an ad-free subscription for an additional $2.99 per month, while the current prices will give them the version with ads.
