Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said in a post published on Telegram on Thursday that Russia must ensure Ukraine's path to NATO ends with its "disappearance."

Medvedev referred to the formal statement by NATO allies released on Wednesday, pledging to support Kiev "on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership," calling the alliance Russia's enemies and warning that Ukraine's "irreversible path" to NATO membership will end with the disappearance of Ukraine or the alliance, or "better yet, both."

In their statement, NATO member countries said the alliance poses no threat to Russia, isn't seeking confrontation with Moscow and is willing to keep channels of communication open to prevent escalation.
