5.9-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Japan

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The epicenter was 140 kilometers north-east from Fukue Island, which has a population of around 26,000.

The tremor struck the region at a depth of 10 kilometers and it remains unknown, as of yet, whether there are any casualties or damages.

5.8-magnitude earthquake hits central California
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has hit central California, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Wednesday. The tremor originated at a depth of 2.9 km, with epicenter around 17 kilometers south-east of Lone Pine, a town in Inyo County. Fortunately, no casualties or damage were reported so far. Yesterday, a similar 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit southern Mexico, awaking a tsunami in nearby Pacific coastal areas.
