Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov (pictured) told reporters on Sunday that the United States is trying to "destabilize" the situation in the country ahead of the upcoming Russian presidential elections.

"The degree of Russophobic rhetoric of the Biden administration is off the charts," Antonov stressed, calling the rhetoric a "coordinated set of provocative steps." He urged Washington to abandon its anti-Russian actions before the bilateral relations between the countries "slide into the abyss." He went on to say that the US media is actively calling for protests "at the walls of Russian diplomatic missions and the damage of ballots during the elections."

"We are resolving issues related to the organization of the upcoming elections in a business-like manner," he stated.
