The European Commission announced on Friday that it is launching a new humanitarian air bridge operation in Syria, which aims to deliver emergency healthcare and other essential supplies to those in need.
"The collapse of the Assad regime offers new hope for the Syrian people. But this moment of change also carries risks and brings hardship. With the situation on the ground so volatile, our help to the people of Syria is ever more important," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.
Aid flights funded by the European Union will carry 50 tonnes of health supplies from the bloc's stockpiles in Dubai to Turkey's Adana, after which the help will be distributed across the border. The EC further shared that it will boost Syria's humanitarian funding for 2024 to €163 million.
