Major stock indexes in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly higher on Friday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 surpassing the 37,000 mark for the first time in 34 years, driven by a 10% increase in shares of SoftBank Group Corp. after a near 50% surge in shares of its majority-owned chip technology firm, Arm Holding PLC.
In addition, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. released its earnings reports for the third quarter of 2024.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.14% at 3:20 am CET and Hong Kong's Hang Seng reduced by 1.56% at 3:21 am CET, while Japan's Nikkei 225 was up by 0.43% at 3:23 am CET. Financial markets in China and South Korea were closed for the Lunar New Year holidays.
The dollar traded flat against the yen, going for ¥149.2855 at 3:26 am CET.
