Asian stock markets were mostly lower in the afternoon trade on Tuesday after the latest data from China revealed that the country's population declined in 2022 for the first time in six decades. In addition, investors went over economic growth, retail sales and industrial production figures from the People's Republic.
The Nikkei 225 increased by 1.23% at the close. The Shanghai Composite declined by 0.43% at 6:47 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite Index was flat at 7:01 am CET. The Hang Seng was down 1.08% at 7:03 am CET. The Kospi lost 0.95% at the same time. The S&P/ASX 200 closed flat.
The dollar was nearly unchanged compared to the Japanese yen at 7:05 am CET, trading for 128.595.
