French National Rally leader Jordan Bardella (pictured) warned on Wednesday that the budget proposal for 2025 could push the country into a "major recession" and weaken the purchasing power of most people in France.
"Therefore, I take responsibility and the promises we made to our voters, namely to protect them. By expressing this distrust in the government, we are protecting them," Bardella told reporters ahead of the opposition's confidence vote on Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government, expected as early as today.
Opposition parties are preparing to vote on a motion of no confidence against Barnier's government after a series of disputes over the next year's budget. If Barnier is ousted, it would be the first time in more than six decades that a French government has been removed through such a vote.
