French Prime Minister Michel Barnier will use article 49.3 of the French constitution to adopt the budget without a vote in the parliament, TF1 reported on Monday. The article allows the government to push through legislation that the parliament does not approve of. The only way for lawmakers to stop the bill is through a successful vote of no confidence, which would bring down the government.
Far-right National Rally, a major French opposition party, came out against the budget proposal and threatened to back a no-confidence motion. Earlier today, Barnier's office said it will make concessions to the National Rally and abandon the planned reduction of medicine reimbursements.
