United States President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin expressed their concerns and wishes for a quick recovery to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday after he was attacked in Handlova, Slovakia.

"I am alarmed to hear reports of an attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Jill and I are praying for a swift recovery, and our thoughts are with his family and the people of Slovakia. We condemn this horrific act of violence," Biden said in a statement.

On the other side, Putin expressed his well wishes for the prime minister's speedy recovery during a phone conversation with Slovak President Zuzana Caputova. "I know Robert Fico as a courageous and strong-willed man. I really hope that these qualities will help him withstand this difficult situation," the Russian president said in a message on Telegram.
