United States President Joe Biden reached a tentative agreement with railway workers and promised they will get higher salaries and better working conditions, the White House said in a written statement issued on Thursday.

"For the American people, the hard work done to reach this tentative agreement means that our economy can avert the significant damage any shutdown would have brought," Biden stated.

Before the agreement was reached, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) announced the cancelation of all long-distance train routes due to a potential strike of railway workers.
