Annual inflation in Canada spiked from 1.9% in January to 2.6% in February, according to a report by Statistics Canada on Tuesday. Month-on-month, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.4%. The rise in prices was mainly attributed to the end of the goods and services tax (GST)/harmonized sales tax (HST) break partway through the month.
Yearly core inflation, excluding energy and food, stood at 2.7%, up from 2.1% in January. Monthly, core inflation was measured at 0.7%.
