US Defense Secretary Ash Carter warned North Korean missiles are a “serious threat” to the country.
Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Carter said the Defense Department’s job is to “to stay one step ahead of the North Koreans" in terms of missile defenses.
The defense secretary said his country is ready to take down North Korean missiles if they approach US territory, or the territory of US allies.
Earlier today, an unidentified spokesman from North Korea’s foreign ministry stated the country may launch its intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at any time and any place the country’s leadership chooses, Yonhap reported.
In his New Year’s speech, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-Un claimed the country was close to test-launching ICBM. US President-elect Donald Trump tweeted in response “It won’t happen!”
