An earthquake of 6.6 magnitude on the Richter scale struck central Italy on Sunday injuring at least 11 people, two of them severely, and destroying many buildings. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was in the proximity of the town of Norcia, 68km from Perugia.
Despite today's earthquake being stronger than the 6.2 magnitude one that hit the country just over two months ago, no fatalities have bee reported following today's disaster.
In August, almost 300 people were killed after an earthquake in central Italy, mostly affecting the town of Amatrice.
