China's State Council Information Office published a white paper on the country's energy transition Thursday, claiming it achieved "historical breakthroughs" in the development of green and low-carbon energy.

The paper noted that 40% of the country's total electricity generation in 2023 came from clean energy sources, while 26.4% of all energy consumption in China was clean energy. The share of clean energy in total consumption was up by 10.9 percentage points from 2013.

The State Council Information Office added that China's wind and photovoltaic products helped reduce emissions in other countries by about 810 million tons and warned against any unilateralist or protectionist approach, calling global powers to "act in a responsible manner by ensuring global energy security, promoting green development and maintaining market order."
