Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang stated at the opening of the Lanting Forum in Shanghai that it is not the Chinese mainland that is not attempting to disrupt the "status quo" with regard to Taiwan, accusing the independence separatist forces and a handful of other countries fueling tensions.
China has been increasing its military activities around the disputed island in recent months, prompting concern from the international community. The United States has also been showing its support for Taiwan, with high-level officials visiting the island and advocating for its inclusion in international organizations.
