The Chinese Foreign Ministry warned Australia on Thursday of "serious harm" to the countries' bilateral relations following Canberra's decision to cancel two deals signed between the state of Victoria and Beijing as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Describing Australia's decision, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that it "recklessly interferes in and destroys normal exchange and cooperation, and seriously harms China-Australia relations."

Australia previously said it decided to unilaterally cancel the deals as they were "inconsistent with Australia’s foreign policy or adverse to our foreign relations."
