China canceled a meeting with the Japanese foreign minister over the G7 statement on the situation in Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying (pictured) said at a briefing on Thursday while criticizing Japan's government.
Yesterday the Group of Seven (G7) vowed its concern due to China's live-fire exercises, remarking that there is "no justification to use a visit as a pretext for aggressive military activity in the Taiwan Strait."
However, Hua told the press that China would not participate in the meeting between the foreign ministers of China and Japan in Phnom Penh because Japan, together with the G7 countries and the European Union, made "unfounded accusations" against her government, thus increasing tension in the region.
