Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning rejected on Wednesday cyberattack accusations from the United States, which imposed sanctions on a Chinese company over a breach in 2020. "We urge the US to stop framing and scapegoating China," Mao said, adding that Beijing will take necessary measures to protect the "legitimate rights and interests" of its citizens and organizations.

Mao also condemned Canada's decision to sanction eight Chinese officials for alleged repression of ethnic and religious minorities. She said the measure "severely violates" international law, accused Canada of "lies and hypocrisy" and added that China "attaches great importance" to upholding and protecting human rights.
