China is set to implement "additional measures" to enhance the security of its peacekeeping forces stationed in Lebanon, according to comments by Chinese spokesperson for the National Defense Ministry, Wu Qian, made on Tuesday.
Wu emphasized that the safety of Chinese troops remains a top priority, with close monitoring of the situation in the region. He condemned the recent Israeli attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), calling for a full investigation into the incident. He urged all involved parties to prevent future incidents and ensure the protection of UN personnel and assets.
On October 11, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) admitted to accidentally injuring two UNIFIL members during a recent operation, sparking widespread international condemnation. Meanwhile, Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Energy Minister Eli Cohen, have called for the removal of UN peacekeepers from southern Lebanon, questioning their role in maintaining regional security.
