China: G20 should discuss economy, not Ukraine

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian expressed on Friday Beijing's opinion that the Group of 20 (G20) should be used to discuss the global economy and not the crisis in Ukraine.

Commenting on the Group of Seven's (G7) statement in which they expressed their disappointment Russia was allowed to participate in the meeting of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors, Zhao said that the alliance "should take a responsible approach, avoid the politicization and militarization of international cooperation, and bring more stability and certainty to a world facing multiple challenges."

The meeting of the finance ministers and central bank governors of the countries comprising the G20 was marked by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada's exit from the summit in protest over Russia's military operation in Ukraine.
