Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed on Friday a request to have former United States President Donald Trump and his co-defendants trial in the case that examines their alleged attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia begin on August 5, 2024.
According to the filing, Willis also asked the judge not to allow either Trump or his co-defendants to sever their cases one from another until the final day for pleas, which she suggested should be June 21.
"This proposed trial date balances potential delays from Defendant Trump's other criminal trials in sister sovereigns and the other Defendants' constitutional speedy trial rights," Willis wrote.
